On 9 May, on the occasion of Europe Day, the Commission officially launched the European Year of Skills.
The European Year of Skills puts skills centre-stage. The aim of the year is to help people get the right skills for quality jobs and helping companies, in particular small and medium enterprises, address skills shortages in the EU.
At its members conference in Oslo on 11 and 12 May, Pearle* members welcomed the European Year, whilst sharing concerns about the skills shortages and difficulties to fill in vacancies in the technical, production, administrative, marketing, communication and business departments. These shortages have important implications on the daily operations of live performance organisations. Members call upon significant support from governments, as the pandemic has accelerated the shortage in the sector.
