On 28 September, on behalf of Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the Thuringian Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow awarded the former Managing Director of the German Theatre and Orchestra Association, Rolf Bolwin, the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
In the laudation, his commitment after reunification was particularly emphasized: “It was about the question of how the rich theater and orchestral landscape in the then still new federal states could be preserved and made future-proof. The structural adjustment of the East German theaters was sometimes a very rocky road; it often required unconventional solutions, for which neither former experiences nor examples could be drawn on. To a large extent, it is thanks to Rolf Bolwin that this process has succeeded in an impressive way.” With his commitment, he contributed to “ensuring that all of the theater and orchestra locations in Thuringia could be preserved and have a sustainable perspective.”
